Stereo New England meeting
Sunday, February 11, 2001, 1:45 PM
Newman Auditorium
BBN Technologies
70 Fawcett St.
Cambridge, MA 02138
Members Landscape Show:
There is still time for submissions. Bring your slides, 41 x 101 or 2x2 for
inclusion in the show. Thanks to all who contributed slides so far. Dupes
have been made and the original slides will be returned at the meeting, see
Jan.
Table Topics:
The Leep system.
Paul Wing
Paul acted as an advisor during the initial design phases for the Leep
system. The camera uses 120 roll film and has aperatures from f11 - f45 and
no viewfinder! Paul will display the special wide angle viewers and a
selection of views to demonstate the remarkable results obtainable from
the Leep camera. These pictures have such a wide field of view that
projection simply is not possible. With the camera on hand, we might even
be able to take a couple of portraits. Take advantage of this rare
opportunity to view one of possibly as few as three working Leep cameras
ever finished.
Viewer Roundtable.
Eric Goldstein
Half the fun of stereo photography is the Stereo Slide Viewer! At our next
SNE presentation, take a close look at stereo slideviewers... compare
models and features from Realist, Kodak, Revere, Wollensak, TDC and deWijs
for performance, modifiability, reliability, availability and cost. Bring
your own slides and see how each viewer measures up for yourself.
Print Parade:
Here's a chance to show those prints you've been making. Anyone wishing to
share their prints is invited to display them along the front wall of the
cafeteria.
Teacher Feature:
Ron Labbe will present a short program on computer stereo modeling. Ron's
company, Studio 3D, is one of the few in the country that specializes in
stereoscopic imaging. Check out his website at studio3d.com....
Short Presentation:
Jay McCreery
"Maine: from Mt. Katahdin to the Rugged Coastline."
SNE member Jay McCreery has been creating stereo images in 2x2 format since
the late 1970s. He began shooting stationary objects with a single 35-mm
camera, and now uses an electronically-synchronized Canon AE-1P setup with
various lens configurations. His program will feature scenic images from
Maine using this setup and a Kodak stereo camera.
Feature Presentation:
Bill Salkin
"ON THE SURFACE & BELOW THE RIM"
A 3D journey through the Southwestern Colorado Plateau
During the last 2 years, SNE member Bill Salkin has been making an annual
"trek" to the canyon country surrounding the UT/AZ border, shooting his
landscape imagery entirely in stereo. This presentation is a collection of
terrain and landform "scenes" from his most recent explorations of this
area. Whether on the plateau surface or below, in narrow canyons, the
effects of light and the forces of erosion on this land creates a most
dramatic and often surreal scene. Curious? Then, please come and share a
journey through some of the most "unearthly" terrain on Earth!
Bill Salkin, a 23 year resident of the Boston area, is an explorer of the
worlds of audio and visuals. Since 1975 he has been working with electronic
music and sound production and has been exploring photography of the land
for the past nine years.
No Open Projection at this meeting due to the fact that all programs are 2x2.
