There is tons of photo ops in New Orleans. I think people either love
the city or hate it, but I love it. And that's from someone who
doesn't drink hardly at all and has never been to Mardi Gras. You can
get anywhere you want on foot and by trolley.
Hit the french quarter and Jackson square (very near the Aquarium).
I actually didn't get many stereo shots at the aquarium because of
extreme low light, murky water and reflections from the glass. The
albino alligator makes a good picture though.
Go to the Mardi Gras museum (take the ferry right next to the
aquarium). I got some great shots there. Lighting is tricky because
it's in a warehouse, so you might want to use a little fill flash.
If they are still there, you might want to get pictures of the
artists fish. They are like the cows in Chicago, but it's fish, and
they are all over town.
Go to The D-Day museum. You can only take flash pictures on the lower
level (which ironically is the only level which enough light to take
pictures without a flash), but it's a good exhibit and you might get
some good shots with some faster film (it's very dark).
You may also want to hit some of the many cool cemeteries (they have
tours of them)
Take a swamp tour if you have time.
For a light meter, you may wan to hit Liberty Camera Center.
Lakeside Camera and Imaging I think is bigger, but you may have to
drive to it.
