Ron Beck asks how "this wonderful item [the Realist heat sealer] is supposed 
to work."

That little thing with the handle is an "iron"  which goes in the slot at the 
top of the heating unit until it gets hot.  You then take it out and press it 
on the slide mount.  The pressure and the residual heat in the iron is 
supposed to seal the mount.  If for some reason you think that's good news, 
here's even better news:  It doesn't work on modern heat-seal mounts.

But there really is good news:  it's possible to modify the heat-sealing 
unit, by joining it with the mounting jig that is supposed to come with the 
set to create a shape-specific iron that really will work with modern 
heat-seal mounts.  I received instructions on how to do this from Linda 
Nygren, and still have them.  If anyone is interested, let me know.  If 
enough people are interested, I'll post the instructions here.
