I'll have to SECOND that! There is no comparison between simple
lenses and the achromat viewers. Another option is using mirror
viewers, the trade off being smaller images. Reading glasses
also work surprisingly well in minimizing any chromatic
aberrations. 

Gabriel, proud owner of two achromatic Visual Survey Telebinocular
viewers and Alan Lewis's orginal Achromat Lorgnette I (with stand
adapter!).
