That's a bit of an overstatement.

Vincent Price in "House of Wax", Kathryn Grayson, Howard Keel, and Ann
Miller in "Kiss Me Kate", Nigel Bruce in "Bwana Devil", John Wayne,
Ward Bond and James Arness in "Hondo", Rita Hayworth, Jose Ferrer, and
Aldo Ray in "Miss Sadie Thompson", Randolph Scott in "The Stranger
Wore A Gun".

These were famous actors at the time these movies were made.
Admittedly I don't follow directors as closely, but I can't imaging
that the studios would have let just anyone direct a movie with a
major star.
