[photo-3d] 3D photo clubs and contacts

On 2/22/01 George Themelis proposed an internet listing
of stereo clubs and noted:
> I know that Alex Klein started this in www.stereoscopy.com
> but I don't know how successful this effort has been.
Alex appears to have listings for 26 clubs, plus entries
on organizations such as NSA, ISU, SSA.
The 3D Yellow Pages, accessible from the rmm3d home page or
this link: http://www.rmm3d.com/yellow_pages/yellow.pages.html
has listings for 4 organizations and 59 stereo clubs around the
world:
Australia (3), Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark (2), England (2)
Finland, France, Germany (5), Hungary, Italy, Japan (7), The
Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain (2), Sweden, Switzerland, and
the US (27).
I believe the 3D Yellow Pages were originally compiled by Tim
Klein. Joel Alpers made them accessible via his RMM web site
quite a few years ago. The www.rmm3d.com web site provides an
interface to the yellow pages, but the program and database
are still maintained by Joel.
Joel does update the database with info he receives, but I'm
sure there must be a lot of out of date info in there. With
"over 500 listings" it is probably not possible for the keeper
of the list to seek out all updates. (How would the correct
info be obtained if the old contact info no longer works??) It
would be a good idea for all stereo clubs to assign someone (e.g.,
the club secretary) the responsibility for sending info updates
to Joel. Each search results page advises: Email changes or
additions to: jkbl@xxxxxxxx
George T's 2/22 message goes on to suggest regarding the 3D Photo
FriendFinder (sm) http://www.rmm3d.com/friend-finder/register.shtml
> all we need is the name of the most active person In every major
> city/area in the USA for example we can assign one contact.
Um, George, so far the problem is getting one person from
each area to put themselves in the list. Too many listings
in one area is not a problem at all. Having only one contact
person is not enough, IMO. For example, if that person's
contact info changes and no one tells the database maintainer,
how can we be sure to find that person, or an alternate, when
needed? Listing all 3d photo hobbyists in the FriendFinder has
other advantages also.
> This should be in a plain list where everybody can access.
I can add a field for people to indicate they are willing to
be a "primary" contact, and could provide a way to display
a list of all primary contacts. Many people don't want their
info to be displayed somewhere that anyone can access. But
if you send all these "most active" people to register at
http://www.rmm3d.com/friend-finder/register.shtml I'll gladly
take care of the rest.
