Is the View-Master model D bakelite?  Elliott Swanson
has posted a lot of information about repairing bakelite
damage.  I've looked it up in the archives for people
several times, and posted a summary on the MF 3D list
(Sputniks are bakelite). See

Guess it's time to ask Elliott for permission to include
his bakelight repair advice in the 3D Encyclopedia.

We're certainly relieved to hear that our Pacific Northwest
friends avoided what could have been an enormous disaster
yesterday.  What a close call!
