Sorry I jumped to conclusions about your experience with a Kodaslide ll
viewer I had assumed part of your poor results were that you were comparing
35 mm with MF but after looking at a Kodaslide ll viewer I noticed, for the
first time, that the interoccular adjustment is only 62 to 69 mm- so that no
known lens that I know of would work if your interocular is 56mm-unless you
can reduce the interocular spacing of the viewer such that you are looking
through the approx. center of the lens- larger diameter lenses would not
help very much as you would still be looking through the outer ( non
center ) part of the lens with all the astigmatism etc which begets you a
poor image to put it mildly.I believe that if you were to move the lenses
to an interocular spacing of 56 mm the results would be improved markedly
even if they were only 25 to 30 mm in diameter as achromats are only sharp
in the centeral area especially when you are dealing with a 78mm f/1.7 lens
( 78 mm / 46mm) Maybe now you can see why I believe an interocular
adjustment is a real plus.- especially for 35 mm stereo whereas you can get
by with MF, but I am sure you would see a considerable improvement with a MF
viewer. Thanks again for including the viewer along with the EXPO 2000
