RJV responds:
I found the leaks in my RBT X4 with a simple but systematic experiment.
I loaded some TMY-400 B/W film and advanced the film about a half dozen
frames with the lens caps on. Then I went into a pitch dark room, opened
the back, and carefully marked the film at the left frame edge next to
the film cassette lip and closed the back. Without moving the film or
making any pictures, I took the camera outside and held the back to the
sun for exactly 5 minutes while rotating the camera at many angles. I
developed the film for the specified time plus 40%. Following this or a
similar technique makes the experiment repeatable. I loaded the
developed film back into a cassette, place it back into the camera, and
advanced the film until the marks on the film were realigned with the
camera interior. The position of the fogged film areas indicated where
each of the several leaks were. 5 minutes in direct sunlight with 40%
overdevelopment may seem harsh but hiking in the hills in Arizona after
the convention for an entire afternoon may very well be even more harsh.
I hope this helps in finding exactly where your leaks are.
