I have some images where the individual "items" are in 3-D and the
surrounding scene is flat. These were from some of my cloning
experiments I was conducting on animals and humans awhile back ago.
They didn't turn out exactly right. They look kinda flat, but heck, no one said
it would be easy. I'll have some much better results by this summer. In the
meantime, check one out from last summer at appropriately enough,

I think there must be other categories, unlisted or yet to be discovered. The
reason is because digital manipulations opens up endless new possibilities
that were too hard to implement before.
You mentioned a few good ones, such as 3-D in 3-D (I've posted some
examples of this in the past, 3-D Keyboard is a recent simple example)
and 2-D in 3-D (that is leaving some 3-D elements out. Some that come
to mind are YOUR mind "bending" tricks in previous APEC III exchanges! :-)
2-D to 3-D conversions shouldn't be forgotten. Other neat tricks are color
and black and white, anaglyphs incorporated into stereopairs (Jim Harp
had an excellent example of this in the recent APEC III Exchange), mixing
hyper elements with either pseudo (many of us have done this by
accident before!). Basically, any element that can be identified in 2-D
images and illusions can be further exploited in 3-D! Tricks can be played,
mixing up the 2-D depth cues with stereoscopic depth cues.
If you introduce the element of motion, there is a whole slew of other
illusions to exploit. Example, you can have a "still" image changing
gradually from 2-D to ortho to hyper (and pseudo, if you wish)!
Another amazing trick is wearing anaglyph glasses while drinking and
driving! You got to try it, to believe it. Yes, you heard right. Now before you
think I'm crazy and shoot the messenger, check out the image/message!

It's kind of funny that George brings up the subject of trick photography
during this time. How appropriate!
