I think that's the right idea, but those glasses have 
resolutions only about 20% greater than the i-glasses
that I have two of, and mine are pretty bad resolution-wise
(good for non-flickering 3D movies using alternating frame
movies, but even in non-3D mode, the image resolution is
pretty bad).

It's only a little better than VGA resolution.

Just double the resolution of the sony one (in each direction)
and we're starting to get reasonable... :-)
