Franka made a viewer which could hold 2x2 slides in a plastic holder. You simply put one slide into each end of the plastic holder and you're off. I'm not sure if these are still available anywhere, but Reel-3D used to sell the viewer and boxes of the plastic holders. These are probably too fat to go in a regular projector though.
