I'm looking forward to the time when digital stereo images can be projected
with anywhere near the quality that slide projectors from the 50s now easily
and affordably achieve.  Once that is possible it might make sense to
compare the costs of digital projectors to conventional ones. I don't think
it will ever be meaningful or appropriate to use adjectives such as "crappy"
when describing the stereo imaging and projecting equipment of the 50s,
which still exceeds the image quality of most currently available digital
technology.
