Another approach is to make two different mounts for twin 35's.

For my Olympus OM-10's, I built a horizontal side-by-side bar, and also a
base-to-base bar-and-back-plate holder for verticals.

Since the horizontal shots are often scenics, they also benefit from the
hyper effects of the wider stereo base.

Since the vertical shots are often people, they benefit from the more normal
stereo base.

The best of both worlds.
