Marty, don't hide under the table! Bring your wife, and come to my room for
a nice glass of wine and heartfelt thanks for taking on such a thankless
job. I couldn't possibly take on a project such as an NSA convention
without giving up my day job, and I am grateful to those who contribute
their time and energy knowing that they will still get an earful for failing
to meet everyone's expectations.

I attended my first NSA convention in '97 and chose to attend the workshops
instead of the stereo theatre, as I knew I had a lot to lean (still do). In
retrospect, it was a mistake to ignore the theatre (I missed "The Kitchen
Sink"). Two years later in Green Bay, I made a serious effort to see a few
shows even though I spent most of Friday on a conference call with my office
(never again!). I found that the inspiration that comes from seeing good
work was as useful as any instruction. I also made a few new acquaintances,
and now I look forward to seeing them every summer. Last year in Mesa, I
finally achieved the perfect balance of seeing, schmoozing, schooling and
socializing.

Some presentations in the stereo theatre are shown more than once, which is
a godsend if you can't choose between David Lee's workshop and Boris
Starosta's Technobot. I hope this trend continues, although I can see how
it could get more and more difficult to arrange. Thanks to Marty and
several other generous stereo proponents, I'm looking forward to a grand
time in Buffalo.
