I would recommend a Stereo Realist, and that you consider purchasing one
from Dr T or another knowledgable seller, preferably one that has been
cleaned lubricated and adjusted prior to purchase. Ebay has some
bargains, but it is often harder to know what you are getting in terms
of camera functional condition. The good news is that most Realists work
pretty well as found, even after sitting around for 40 years or so in
someone's closet. The basic 3.5 model is a great value, and the 2.8's
have some subtle advantages at quite a bit higher cost.

Many people find Kodaks and Reveres more user friendly, but I have
personally gotten more consistent results with Realists. Once you get
used to the slightly strange controls (and the whole idea of a truly
manual camera), that isn't any big deal, and any "new" (to you) camera
will take some getting used to. Although the XA rigs do have some
advantages as a compact version of your twin SLR's, I do find the
increased lens separation (compared to a 50's stereo camera) to be a
problem especially with closer subjects. Realists are easily made
compatible with modern flashes by filing down the "bump" on the hotshoe,
or you can use an adaptor if you prefer. Reveres would take the same
type of adaptor, but Kodak flash adaptation is more difficult (no flash
shoe on the camera plus needing a hard-to-find asa to pc plug adaptor).
Good luck with your quest! -Linda
