The San Francisco Film Festival (http://www.sffs.org/) is happening.
There is a related 3D event. Admission is free.

Semi-secretly hidden in a very hard to find place (unlisted gallery),
for a very short time only (only until tomorrow, Tues, 24-Apr-01,
9am-6pm), is a related 3D stereoscopic, interactive "immersion"
installation. I just checked it out today. It's very cool. Too bad
there doesn't seem to be any real promotion for this event.

**REAL BUMMER** that I didn't know about this an announce it at the
NSA Regional meeting on Saturday night!!! :-(

What: "Be Now There" (a 3D installation)
Stand on a turning stage and view stereoscopic
35mm film with polarizing 3D glasses.
       Push buttons to visit:
         - Angor
         - Jerusalem
         - Dubrovnik
         - Timbuktu
Push same city button up to 3 times to see scenes at
3 different times of the day.
It appears that the 35mm film is being projected by
computer as the pixellation is visible.
Where: 39 Mesa St, The Presidio, San Francisco, CA -
Palm Room, San Francisco Film Society
Why: part of the SF Int'l Film Fest
Time: until tomorrow, 24-Apr-01, 9am-6pm
How to get there: (good luck)
 - have a detailed map with you (I suggest mapquesting it!)
 - Muni bus #29 stops nearby
 - parking available (if you can find the place, then parking is easy)
 - Mesa St is a small street not far from the intersection of
   Lincoln Blvd and Presido Blvd

More info, see "Be Now There" at http://www.naimark.net

Good luck! Hurry!

(Neither the installation nor the naimark website provide any
information on the artist and whether he lives in California or not,
but he seems to have a history of very interesting 3D works on his
website.)
