I have now discovered that my particular Nimslo (made in Japan) will
close the aperture to the smallest opening when a bright light source is
place over the CdS cell, and still trigger a Vivitar 285 flash attached
to the hot shoe. I used a light in which the base (holds two AAA
batteries) is designed to clip to a pocket (or something similar), and
the bulb (mini-type) is at the end of an 8" flexible tube. I clipped
the base on the flash head, removed the head to expose the bare bulb,
and then taped it directly over the CdS cell.

this correct?

I discovered a quick and easy way to do this. Cut a small square of
household aluminum foil, place it on the hot shoe, then slide the flash
(turned off, of course) over the foil. The shutters will now stay open
as long as you hold down the button!
