I talked with Deborah Borer, who handles custom runs for View-Master, they
produce the blank reels.  She said the machine is in such bad repair, it
needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, and when Fisher-Price put a pencil
to it, the cost was not justified based on the demand for the reels.She did
not know of any plans to sell the equipment.

According to Deborah, their last production run is being held up because the
alloy used in making the reels is unavailable because of the war in Kosovo.
It's the same used in making k-rations.  Although the war is reportedly
over, it looks like NATO troops may remain there for some time.
