S3D fed VS fedboy

Hi,
There have been quite some offers of fed camera's on ebay lately.
Occasionally I've felt tempted to buy one. One thing however is holding me
back.
They're all "original" fed's and not "fed boy" (for export). I've been
warned by several people only to buy the latter.
The ones intended for the internal market seem to have serious problems and
are, so i'm told, often  beyond adjustment/repair.  
Now, the ones I have seen on auction are all "origanals". Were can one find
the "boy" version ?
I remember Kagan an Hewes used to sell them "upgraded" and with guarantee.
