For sale:
Quantum Bantam Battery: This is the low end of Quantum's outboard battery
line. It's a small unit, about 2" x 3" x 1", and attaches underneath the
camera to the tripod socket. The power is delivered to the flash unit by
means of a wire, on the end of which is a module that replaces the flash's
own battery pack, and comes with a little velcro thingie that "reseals" the
battery compartment, which won't close normally since there's a wire sticking
out of it. Included are: Instructions for use; recharger; and two flash
modules: one that will fit a Vivitar 283/285, and one that will fit the low
end Canon flashes (you'll have to carve a little channel in the flash's
battery compartment door for the wire to emerge). PRICE: $70
Vivitar 283 flashes (2): One of the most frequently used flash units in
stereo photography. Flash has five power settings including manual. Both
units have velcro around the upper part of the unit, near the flash head, for
attachment of a "soft box". The velcro is easily removed, but I haven't done
so because someone might think this a plus feature.
#1 has been recently reconditioned, but does not have the response time it
used to have, so if you're looking for a rapid-fire unit, this ain't it. But
it's fully functional. PRICE: $30
#2 is in even better condition in terms of recovery speed; its only problem
is that the two-prong input where one would plug in a large external battery
doesn't function. (The Quantum Bantam, for sale above, wouldn't have any
problem, since its power is delivered through the battery compartment.)
PRICE: $40.
Gossen Luna Pro sbc lightmeter: I picked this up used without any real need
for it, and since it hasn't come in handy since, I've decided to sell it. I
have no instruction book for it, and no way of telling how accurate it is;
just that when I press the button on the side, it seems to work. It
apparently measures both flash and ambient light, since there a dome that can
slide over the sensor. This isn't a digital meter, but I don't know what else
to tell you about it. PRICE: $100
Plastic "soft box": This all-plastic unit slips easily over the head of a
Vivitar 283 flash (and probably several others besides), with no attachment
needed; it's held in place by friction. Will soften the light coming from the
flash head, and reduce the power by about 1 stop. PRICE: $5
Shipping will be $4 for one item; $5 for two; $6 for three; $7 for four.
