S3D Re: Termination of auction

I just purchased an original round Kodak picture off eBay with a picture
of a dog on it. On the back is written "Monte, 3 Mch 1890" and a family
name. I should research back the family name records and find out who
had a dog named Monte, and ask the descendants if they would like the
photo back.
What about all the thousands of postcards sold each week, not only on
eBay, which have names and addresses on them. I feel all of those people
or their relatives should be traced so that we can find out if they
still want those postcards.
I should contact everyone selling anything, which may have once belonged
to someone else, and tell them to terminate their auctions until they
can track down the original owners and ask them if they would like it
back. :-)
