FOR THOSE WYO INQUIRED. WE NOW HAVE SAMS BACK IN STOCK.
3D Concepts offers the Stereo Active Magnifier (SAM) precision stereo
mounting system.
We are exploring a medium format system that we will show at NSA, and for
the time being we offer SAMS with mounting jigs for the following 35mm
slide brands.
2 x 2 single mount jigs (mount in pairs)
WESS
GEPE
BONUM
41 x 101 or near eqiuvalent stereomount jigs
RBT/Cardboard heat seal
Cardboard foldover
EMDE
ALBION
SPICER
Additional interchangeable jigs are 80.00 ea
Blank jig plates are 15.00 ea.
What is a SAM?
Its a combination of a focusing stereo viewer, and a light table with
interchangeable jig that firmly holds the slide mount of your choice.
What does it do?
The SAMS lens system is cantilevered over the slide mount jig so that your
hands can access the mount and allow you to manipulate the film chips WHILE
you view in stereo.
Therefore your two eyes and your brain, assisted by proper (2X)
magnification, become the most powerful, fast and accurate way to achieve
stereo alignment.
How does a SAM differ from a stereo viewer?
1) When you look at a stereo image in a viewer, you are actively viewing in
stereo by the mere fact that your two eyes and brain are all working
together. But, you cannot use a conventional stereo viewer for mounting
because the focal length is too short and the images are too close to your
eyes. You can't access the chips for manipulation with your hands.
2) When you are mounting with a gauge or alignment tool where you are
comparing points on a grid, you are not actively mounting in stereo.
You can free view the image to be in the "active" mode with no magnification,
but the human eyes and brain cannot make the critical fine adjustments a
magnified system makes possible.
3) With a Stereo Active Magnifier (SAM), you are ACTIVELY VIEWING IN
STEREO, UNDER MAGNIFICATION, WHILE MOUNTING. This enables the user to move
the
chips around and ACTIVELY see the magnified stereo image while moving or
"floating" the film chips to make fine precise horizontal, vertical and
rotational adjustments, until proper alignment is achieved.
4) Mounting to a grid or using the eyes to A-B near objects is not active
stereo viewing, thus you cannot see the image until it is temporarily
fasted and placed in a stereo viewer. In the viewer, you see the image,
but only at one static reference point. You have the magnificiation, but
there is no ability to move the chips while viewing in stereo.
5) Most stereo viewers (4X-8X) are designed for the most magnification of
an image, given the aperture it is mounted in. Therefore they are not
optically suitable for mounting anyway. (see below for why)
So the SAM :
1) Is a stereo viewer.
2) Has 2X magnification, which is enough for checking critical details,
while being a long enough focal distance to allow the eyes and brain to see
well outside of the image, to all window edges...for making active stereo
scrutiny comfortable to the eyes.
3) Has its focal distance far enough away for your eye's needs, the
lenses are set up and over the image, by a focusing cantilever arm,
leaving clear space for your hands to get underneath and access the film
chips.
4) Is a portable light table with variable brightness, twin bulbs are set
directly underneath the slide aperture centers.
5) Allows for different types of slide formats. The SAM has interchangeable
jigs (some jigs suffice for more than one steremount type) made for EMDE,
ALBION, RBT, SPICER, CARBOARD FOLDOVER/SLIP-IN/HEAT SEAL, GEPE, BONUM,
WESS, we can fabricate for other off- brands, or provide a blank surface
so the SAM can be used as a plain light table.
This year at NSA, 3D Concepts is hosting Co Ekeren, who makes the SAM and
other fine viewing products for 3D Concepts. We will have SAMS set up to
try, with Jan, Co and I there, to show you the active magnified stereo
mounting experience.
Ask a SAM owner. Once you use the active method, especially if you
project, its hard to turn back to non-magnafied static mounting techniques.
290.00 SAM with ONE interchangeable jig.
10.00 Insured priority S & H in the US
80.00 Optional additional jigs ea.
