** For Sale **

A nice example of an early Realist f3.5 stereo camera. Has the
well-regarded (even coveted, to some) Ilex Paragon lenses which are clean
and clear. Camera was CLA'd (Cleaned Lubed and Adjusted) by Jess Powell
(stereo camera repair specialist in California) two years ago. Shutter
speeds are as accurate as you can expect from a manual shutter of this
vintage - no better than +/- one third EV. I generally use only one or two
speeds (1/100th & 1/50th), and I have no means to accurately test the
shutter. Set to one full second, the shutter sounds to a bit fast - more
like .75 sec. I realize that the shutter can be adjusted fairly easily by
removing the lens board, but I've decided to leave this adjustment to you.
The film advance mechanism is fine: spacing of pairs is good with minimal
overlap. Lastly, despite Mr. Powell's best efforts to tune the focus, the
rangefinder of this particular camera continues to be somewhat difficult to
use. It seems to me that the person who assembled the camera at the factory
wasn't paying very close attention when he/she installed the tiny mirrors
that make up the rangefinder. The result is that it's hard to see/use the
bottom half of the split image. For many of you, this may not be an issue
at all because distance focusing and/or hyper-focal distance focusing is
really a lot more common. As to cosmetics, chrome has a few discrete bright
marks, but no dings. Leather is excellent, with no scratches or tears,
although there is the tiniest nick in the very edge of the lower right of
the back panel. Black enamel paint is shows minor wear, and there is
brassing on the aperture rings that has resulted from use of the Realist
Sun Shade Filter Holder. Also, there is a small chip in the underside of
the bake-a-lite lens shade - in the flange that surrounds the left lens.
Lastly, the hot shoe contact (tiny, hemispheric, spring-loaded brass) has
been filed down just a bit to allow the use a modern flash (BTW, flash sync
works as it should). Over all, I think "Very Good" would be a fair (even
conservative) way to grade the cosmetics of the camera. Comes with its
original, lined leather case, also in very good condition, although there
is a seam that has started to work its way loose. However, the case still
works as it should and protects the camera just fine. I will also include a
Realist Flash in its original box, and a Realist-vintage no-name leather
strap. $175 plus $6 insured Priority USPS shipping in cont. US. Buyer may
return the camera to me within two weeks time for a refund if it is
discoved to be not as represented.

Actually, for some strange reason I have been unable to post to the list a
complete message with URL links in it. I get an error message every time
that reads, "You can only send plain text messages to this group. HTML or
other formats are not allowed." I would still be happy to send you a
complete list of links to all the pics of this camera I have posted on the
Web. Just ask.

Thanks for your interest.

Please reply to me directly if possible, as I don't always have time to
read through the whole digest. Thanks.
