Welcome!

Welcome to the tech3d mailing list. No, you didn't join, you were
kidnapped. If you're offended by my high-handedness, I apologize.
Send me a nasty note at bercov@xxxxxxxxxxx and I will take you off
the list as soon as I read that note. (Or you can read the
instructions in the next post and take yourself off the list and
not have to wait for me.) If you are not on this list and wanted
to be, it was an oversight, I assure you. 8-) My only excuse for
this kidnapping is that it would have taken me a long time to
write each of you individually and discuss this new list with you.
Tech3d was formed because photo-3d is a very large (~1000) and
very general list, the majority of whose members don't enjoy
highly technical 3D. This list will be for serious technical
thought and photo-3d will be for general correspondence on the
topic. This will be a place away from the crowd for serious
discussion and contemplative thought. Lighter topics will be
referred to photo-3d. Heavy duty topics in photo-3d will be
referred to this list. Moderating policy will be... uh...
draconian. 8-) I'm teasing of course but seriously, we'll try
very hard to stay on-topic. No sense in wasting people's time.
So far tech3d is a secret. I'm sure word will get out soon enough
but I am hoping that its existence won't become general knowledge
for a few weeks yet, by which time the direction of this list
should have become established.
So who are you? You are a few people from photo-3d (of which you
are still a member) who either have vast experience in the field,
a scientific bent, or both.
The next post will be the list instructions. After that, please
post topics. I will post a couple I've been thinking about.
We will be using photo-3d's existing technical directory at
bobcat.etsu.edu. So if you need to post a graphic file to
illustrate a point, ftp it to pub/incoming and tell Bob you've
done it so that he can move it into the technical directory.
