I got in the mail yesterday the paper George wrote on SEMs.  Since 
yesterday was one of those honeydew days, no chance to reply until 
today.  Nice paper, George!  One diagram shows the SEM setup and it 
looks suspiciously like John Roberts' diagram at Joel's web site.  
George notes that to simulate orthogoanl projection, you need to 
keep the scan's included angle at or below 1 degree.  Then you 
won't have toe-in distortions.
 
I would like to hear more about this parallax bar.  I can imagine 
several things it might be but I bet someone on this list knows 
all about it so why imagine?  888-)
