That's sure my suspicion. So what is the real physiological(?)
limit? I did some experiments a while back. With infinity in the
scene, I shot scenes with near object at 2 m, 1 m, and 0,5 m. I
thought 2 and 1 were eminently viewable but not the last one.
However, I also figured that maybe I was peculiar in this (among
many other) respect. Now it looks like maybe the maximum parallax
rule shouldn't be 1/30 of the focal length of the camera. Maybe
it should be 1/15 of the focal length. Of course this would cause
projection problems so you couldn't do this to any pair that might
be projected. However, this still leaves medium format, Holmes,
and large format views open for including more parallax.
