Well, Sam, I guess one could say that moving any elements will 
change, focus, distortion (related to diaphragm position), and image 
size..which is an attribute of focal length and film distance. Enough 
elements and enough movement (and the computers to figure it out and 
voila Zoom lenses!). John can tell you about focal length of negative 
lens...e.g. convergence of the virtual image point?? BobH
