I agree the two square images are exactly alike.  (To pick a nit, you
want the wall parallel to the image plane.  Secondarily, you want the
lens axis perpendicular to the two planes to keep everything in focus
and to obviate some secondary perspective effects.  Assuming you have
an SLR, all this is taken care of by keeping the lens axis perpendicular
to the wall, as you say.)  I agree with you that there's no difference
between SL3D and 2L3D other than the obvious such as maybe having 
apertures which aren't round and having the images land on top of each
other therefore requiring some decoding method whether it be mechanical
or optical.
