Bo-Ku, Character of lenses...

The _Techniques_ article Bob Howard mentioned discussed how a lens
rendered the out-of-focus parts of an image... I think the English rendering
of the Japanese word is "Bo-Ku."
Sharpness throughout an image seems to be the default mode for U. S.
photographers... and the Holy Grail for stereographers! :=)
SL3D seems to be a natural branch of 3D for consideration of this
subject.
Since I'm starting to use cameras with longer lenses than 35mm, I'm
dealing with the question of whether subject motion blur is preferable to out
of focus areas...
I'm not sure if "technique" is really "tech" enough in the charter here
but has anyone seriously experimented with out-of-focus 3D?
