Ed Romney may well be right but I've heard the increased depth of 
field characterized as being the natural result of the lens spending 
more time stopped down.  Of course this is if the shutter is properly
placed.  If it's improperly placed, you want the fastest possible
leaf shutter so as to not vignette any more than you have to.
