That's interesting.  Is this some standard?  So is the 85
mm lens the preferred lens for 35 mm format?

If we use this as a standard, what does it say about the 
required resolution?  For a high-contrast subject the eye
can do 1 minute of arc.  Since this is an angular measure,
the required lpmm on the print would change with the print
size.
