T3D Re rear projection polarisation

I understood that it is possible to do polarised rear projection and i have
made some tentative experiments myself. Although I dont understand how it
can work as they seem more equivalent to ordinary screens than to silver
ones . Perhaps there is enough light transmited directly to retain some
polarisation and there is a compromise between that and the diffused
depolarised light for image formation , which must happen with a silver
screen as well. I believe the best screens for rear projection and
polarisation retention are the black ones. You would also have to avoid
materials that are birefringent which would also "depolarise" ( actualy
repolarise the light by twisting through 90 degrees or converting it to
circular or elliptical polarisation). There is some mention of rear
projection in P3D currently. P.J.Homer
