"Horizontally or vertically oriented wires are seen about equally well,
but when at 60 degrees or 120 degrees to the horizontal, they are only
about one third as visible".
Now did he mean this to apply to vernier acuity or to conventional?
Either way, the brain is trained by experience to resolve horizontal
and vertical lines better than oblique lines. Animal experiments
have shown it's the infant's surroundings which teach him this.
