I found it in his paper.  Here is what he says:
"There are two primary configurations for stereo: 
lens translation; and angular displacement, as 
shown in Figure 1a and 1b.  Lens translation is 
simple and for small field angles results in no 
appreciable optical distortion, but the common 
image area from the two cameras may be restrictively 
small unless the field angles are enlarged.  The 
use of large field angles in the displacement 
technique increases the sensitivity to out-of-plane 
displacement, but will also produce perspective 
distortion in the image."

OK, so do you believe this?
