Right you are and many thanks for pointing it out.
I'd also like to thank Peter A. for sending me a
number of things to think about regarding this
paper.
Next question: Is it at all helpful? Or is it
only clearly understood by those who already
understand exactly what Steve and I did? 8-)
If you think about it, all we did was a geometric
derivation but that derivation is based on a sort
of one in thirty rule. The geometric derivation
is demonstrably correct but this 1 in 30 rule,
although it has always worked well, has no basis
other than it does seem to work well for everyone
who has tried it. I know of no scholarly papers
or double-blind tests on this exact subject. 8-)
Anytime you start trying to characterize human
systems, it seems like you have awful complications
and interactions to deal with and that requires a
lot of ifs, buts and weasel-words in anything you
write about it; therefore:
In conclusion, I am just warning everyone that I
don't know the physical basis of the rule, but it
seems always to work superbly (I haven't seen the
exception). I do know that the geometry, based on
the rule, was done correctly.
