My only qualm with stereo base calculations is quite often, you get
completely different results when you do the math using different methods
of calculation. Every formula gives you a different result, and it does
not really matter if you follow them exactly, or you just guess based on
experience. After all, 2 x 2 is 4 - not 3.999 or 4.001 (except in
California where if you show the teacher you tried to get the proper
answer that's all that matters).

I shoot macro stereo and I use a little slide bar device so I can move
the specimen rather than the camera. I just move it a little depending on
the size of the specimen and usually get good results. Besides, I can use
several different separations and it is highly doubtful if anyone can
tell me which one is the proper one.

Use the formulas if you feel the need, but my experience is that a group
of formulas have questionable value if they do not agree. If I use 4
formulas and get 4 different separations, which one do you use?

My advice is to try all of them, recording your results and see for
yourself.

Just an observation, not a complaint.
