Dear audience,

Since we already have more than 50 subscribers, it is sure time for
my bio:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
- Name: Willem-Jan Markerink

- Profession/Study: School of Management Studies, University Twente

- Country: the Netherlands

- Personal history of photography
After reading some bio's, I now see this question is confusing, I'll
make this a separate one, anyway:

Got my own Minolta camera at 18, after graduating. Used dad's
Voigtlaender Vitessa several years before that, and even won a
contest with it once. Shifted to EOS some years later. Wide angle nut
pur sang, including Horizon 202, 16mm fisheye, and soon to be 8mm
Sigma/Pentax-K with homebrew EOS mount. In my mind, I am already
laying on my back under a bunch of trees, using that 8mm with HIE. I
only have to press the shutter....and fabricate an IR filter, of
course....;-))

    - preferred subjects:

Winter landscapes; can't ski without taking cameras with me, would
probably loose balance and end up in a canyon (carry 10kg of gear in
a PhotoTrekker, and still love the moguls and black runs).
Too superstitious to run around on grave yards....;-))

    - materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry):

Kodak HIE b/w & IE color, Konica, and soon Ilford (thanks Gareth!).
Have very little dark room experience, a local lab has done it for me
thusfar. Lack space and time to get the experience factor going with
this. Will probably run into a cheap dark room equipment offer some
time, and have another time consuming hobby....;-))
Don't even know in which stuff my local lab brews....been trying
to have a larger pro lab process HIE in Tmax RS.

    - format (35mm/medium format/large format):

Thusfar only 35mm; dying to get my hands on & time for 70mm. Already
got 70mm developing stuff. Expanded 35mm to 24x58mm on a Horizon 202.
Would love to do IR pan stuff with a Seitz 70/220 one time, the only 70mm pan
camera around. Also pondering about using a cheap 30mm Russian MF
fisheye with a 70mm camera/back, or as circular fisheye on 4x5".
Ah well, what is a man without his dreams?....:-))

- Other strange hobbies:

4x4 nut/TLC addict/FJ-45V/55 Wagon lover; originating from the wish
to get access to remote spots on this planet, and long tours away
from civilization (and watching too much Daktari). After spending
much time on the OffRoad mailinglist, I can now also be found on the
TLC mailinglist, started this weekend as well.
(if anyone sees a good TLC FJ-45V or FJ-55 Wagon, let me know!)

For those interested in my 4x4 life, see:
http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/main_4x4.htm
Apart from a FAQ on Traction Adding Devices, it contains a whole
bunch of beautiful written expedition stories by Henry Cubillan, and
several highlights of STHM humor (Shade Tree Howler Monkey).

Another pet peeve of mine are gyro optics, binoculars and lenses
with image stabilazation, including auxillary gyros. Got hooked
after buying a cheap Russian mechanical gyro binoculars. More
stunning than the electronic Canon gyro lenses/bino's/camcorders.

More related to IR is my interest in night vision scopes, aka image
intensifiers. After buying a cheap Russian scope, I discovered that
a dark IR filter resulted in a stunning film-alike IR image.
Currently trying to get my hands on a 40mm tube, so that I can take
1:1 pictures of the tube monitor, instead of the 2:1 magnification
on more common 25mm tubes.
Have a very rare Rollei RF-100 photo scope with T2 mounts front and rear,
trying to convert it to EOS (never have been T2-reverse rings for EOS)
Modern 2nd Gen tubes with very dark IR filters even exceed the Wood
effect on IR film. Dazzling.

- How did you find out about this list:

I had a dream....like Cagdas....only much earlier; and a willing provider....;-))
Actually, I it has been on my mind for more than a year now.
Started my Internet life in mid '94 (photo BBS two years before
that), current provider as from mid '95.
Only after being assured several times I could run a mailinglist, I
accepted this account....provider had also just started, so I decided
to first let him go through all the crashes and break downs before
launching this list. Mailserver has been running fine for over a
month now, so I guess he passed that stage....;-))

- Expand on anything photographic you like:

Anyone ever tried IR photography underwater? Got triggered a few days
ago after reading about underwater panorama cameras (yes, they
exist, even with a Leitz lens!).
I know water is a sure IR blocker, but it might only affect far
IR....albeit the normally blue overcast should tell me
otherwise....;-))

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Again, welcome everyone, looking forward to lots of discussions about
this strange hobby!
