Introduction

Willem-Jan Markerink asked me to introduce myself to the list with a short
biography so here it is.

My name is Ken Wilcox and I'm a middle school Science teacher. I live in
Michigan (USA) with my wife of 25 years.

I've been interested in photography since the mid-50s when I took over the
duty of family photographer. When I began teaching about 23 years ago, I
supplemented my income with occasional photography jobs. For a while I did
weddings regularly. For the last 12 years, I've shoot almost exclusivly for
my own amusement.

I have owned and used all formats from Minox to 4x5 but now I shoot 35mm
almost all the time, with occasional medium format work. I've used various
brands of equipment over the years, finally settling on Leica. (a post on
the Leica user's list is how a found out about this list) I shoot
rangefinders almost exclusively (even my medium format is a Koni-Omega) and
sometimes use my wife's SLR.

Most of my shooting these days is of school functions and family events. I
sometimes feel creative and try other "fine art" types of work. The bulk of
my shooting is on Tri-X and HP4. When I shoot transparencies it is usually
Kodachrome or Scala. I process and print my own B & W prints with a Leica
enlarger. I prefer Edwal FG-7 for films and Ilford paper and print
chemicals.

I have shot exactly one roll of infrared film. That was about a year ago. I
used a Leica M6 with a 35mm Summicron and Leica infrared (opaque) filter.
The results were totally unsatisfactory and my second roll is still unshot
and in the freezer.

I'm hoping to learn from much more experienced users how to improve on my
so-far dismal results. An anticipated infrared project for me is to shoot
the Civil War reenactors at a nearby historical park.

Cheers!
