Re: E6 IR film!

Here's a question related to the film size issue: What is it about
IR film that jacks up the cost when compared to other films? Is
it the chemistry of the emulsion itself? Is it handling and shipping
costs (cold cold cold!)? What's the deal?

This is leading somewhere: Something I'm finally getting to do with
TMX is film tests. There are a number of exposure and filter tests
I've been dying to do, but haven't been able to afford enough film
for. I recently got 100' of TMX, and am able to do all the tests
I want to.

Kodak HIE seems like it's far touchier than TMX, so I'd really like
to do the same set of tests on it to get a good grasp on reciprocity
curves, filter response, lattitude, etc. Is it possible to get HIE
in bulk (either 100' roll or box of many 36 exp rolls)? More important,
I guess, is it possible to buy in bulk and still be able to insure the
quality of the film? Locally a 36 exp roll of HIE is about $10US.
Using bulk-loaded TMX I can get a roll down to under $1US. Any way
to come down on the HIE cost?

Thanks,

Tom
