- Name: Adam Klyce
- Profession/Study:Sales Support for the Power & Industrial
Electronics Division of Hitachi America Ltd. My majors in college
were Public Relations, Business Administration & Art Photography.
- Country:San Francisco, CA. USA
- Personal history of photography : I started years ago - in 35mm
through the years have picked up medium & large format as well. I
lke to learn, and have a good memory (in that I can read about
a process and then remember it forever - trying it in the darkroom
or field whenever I want.) I have spent the last few years experimenting
with films and papers, working under the assumption that photography
is an art & a science and so I like to think of myself as an
apprentice - always learning until the day when I can go out into
the world feeling like I know enough to actuallyteach someone else.
- preferred subjects:Anything. Lately I have been drawn to two rather
extreme opposites: wildflowers and abandoned/decaying urban structures.
I have also enjoyed nudes, landscape & I am trying to teach myself
some architectual techniques. I have studied photojournalism (as part
of the journalism sequence in school, which public relations is a
part of.) I have tried my hand at sports photography and next month
I am doing a wedding. I have also done some product photography.
- materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry):I most often use either
Ektar 25 - for color print, Ecktachrome - for transparency, T-max 100,
400, 3200, Tri-X 400, Plus-X (ISO?) and Technical Pan (Iso?) for B&W work.
All of the above, except Ektar 25, I use in 35mm, 120 & 4x5)
For infrared I use Kodak Ektachrome HIE, Kodak High Speed B&W (35mm & 4x5)
and Konica 950nm (120).
Other films I use include: Kodak Pro Gold 100/400, Kodaks New Ektachrome,
Fuji's Sensia & Provia (35mm,120 & 4x5). I have tried Scala (35mm)
and various Ilford films.
I have the Lightroom in Berkeley print my transparency work in Ilfrochrome
Classic (The process formerly known as Ciberchrome,) Custom Process, in
Berkeley prints my Type-R stuff. I have the Rocky Mountain Film Lab
in Boulder do my HIE development -= but everything else I do with
various Kodak chemicals & paper as well as ilford & Oriental paper (yes,
I still have some original Oriental.)
Other photo-processes I have used/continue to use: include alternative
processes like Carbon, Cyan-o-type, Salt-paper-printing, Gum, Platinum,
and Polaroid Transfer.
- format (35mm/medium format/large format): All.
- Other strange hobbies:Reading essays/studies on the effects of the
Mass Media on Society & Culture, Art Criticism & Technologies
effects on Society & Culture.
- How did you find out about this list:Nikon Digest List.
- Expand on anything photographic you like:I am primarily interested
in sharing information on this list about exposure info. with the B&W
IR films. I have a range of filters, including Kodak's 87A, and B+W's
series of color & B&W filters. I have yet, after trying mighty hard, to
get what I would consider a good B&W IR print/negative. Perhaps I
am applying the same standards of tonality, exposure control and the
like that I apply to other processes and that leads to high expectations/
unrealistic criticism. I don't know.
I have tried Automatic metering at ISO 320 (w/ Red No. 25) with a Nikon 6006 &
N90s, with Kodak's B&W - that has given me results (not good ones) and that
is where I have left off. Before that I tried extensive tests with ISO
200 (w/ Red No. 25 filter) and actually got my only really decent image - in
4x5 sized, 7mm Estar Base, Kodak B&W.
