Well....it might be more complicated than that.
Someone posted about Kodak counting on a reflective film pressur
plate to get the famous halo effect (confirmed btw in an article in
Amateur Photographer (thanks Gareth!); the reason for the lack of an
antihalation layer seems to be that no dye can absorb light so far
into the IR spectrum). If one would add a paper back, it might show
the paper fibre on film. Just a wild guess, but it would probably
alter the halo effect we all love.
Actually, according to a fellow night vision nut: not all camera
pressure plates reflect the same amount of IR! One can see this with
those IR sensitive NV scopes, and there are noticeable differences between
camera brands.
BTW, this article in Amateur photographer mentioned the dimpled
pressure plate of a Pentax K-1000 btw (so long for some of the good
old mechanical workhorses....;-)), according to the author it could
be solved by taping something on the pressure plate....he recommended
the paper backing of 120 roll film!
Either my above theory stinks, or this solution doesn't work....
