I second the idea of running a roll at 1/125 at f-11.  It works quite
well if you're after halos.  For a slightly less-haloed appearance,
try 1/250 at f-11 or equivalent.  The test roll I ran was a series
of 1/500, 1/125, and 1/30 at f-11 using a #25 filter.  The 1/125
worked best, but something between it and the 1/500 made for some
really nice pictures.

Oh, and I'll vouch for the info in the IR FAQ about developing in TMax RS
chemistry.  It made for some really nice negatives.  Plenty sharp, not
TOO grainy, and it didn't do oddball things to the film speed.
