This is a little off-topic of the polarizer, but it keys in with
something Jim Norton wrote about clouds:

Some of my favorite cloud pictures are backlit clouds with "God-rays"
beaming out of them from the sun. I've had lots of luck doing this
with TMax and transparency films, but I haven't tried it with IR. Since
IR is so sticky about light levels (and since I don't have an incident
IR meter built yet), any ideas on how to expose a shot like that?
I'm going to be heading out to the Southwest desert, and would like
to play around with some HIE out there. That's one of the things I
wanted to try, but didn't want to burn an entire roll doing it.
