I too thought Yellow Father was being a bit conservative in their "total
darkness" routine. Last fall, up in a ghost town building above
Silverton, Colorado, I decided to change film without the changing bag.
I was inside the building, quite dim. I have an N90s which is very easy
to change quickly. I had the cassette outside for perhaps 4 or 5
seconds. Unhappily, when I developed that roll, the first 7 or 8 frames
were ruined. That is only time I tried this and now always use the
changing bag. It is a hassle but I am afraid it is necessary.
