Frankly, I for one did not remember that.  Of course he was working
with old-fashioned flashbulbs, not with modern strobe equipment.  I
still wonder whether the latter can be relied on to supply predictable
output in the near IR.  (Flash bulbs certainly generated energy all
the way to the far IR--heat.)
