I still wonder how people can call this color black. Take a look
outside (bright sunlight recommended!) and be amazed about the
difference between indoors and outdoors. I am pretty sure not all of
this difference can be contributed to the general difference in
light; I believe the relative amount of 'red' is much much higher
outdoors, including IR.
BTW, even Kodak lists #89B as visually opaque.

(PS Ken/Jim: I love your description 'hominid invisible'....maybe
there is an appropriate latin word for invisible as well....only if
it is as catchy as 'hominid' of course....;-))

As for focusing: I agree that it is not the easiest thing, but
that's where AF cameras shine....they are able to focus even through
87C filters!....but in that case your problem of composition
remains....:-))
However, with #89B, composition shouldn't be a problem IMHO.

Perhaps I am spoiled by looking through the 88A, but I wouldn't call
#89B anything more than dark red.

[note: 'a-one' & 'en-el'!]
Non-TTL viewing cameras like point-and-shoots and Leicas and disposables
and Noblexes and Cannonettes and Mamiya 6s and Rollieflexes and Yashicamats
take all the fun out of these discussions, but sure make it easy to
photograph!
