Willem--I spoke with a tech. rep. at Cokin today and he confirms what I told
you about the Varicolor filters. They consist of two linear color polarized
filters. When the gray polarizer is used in conjunction with the colored
polarizers the angle the light is polarized at changes. He did however say
that a gray circular polarizer could be used, but the color shift would be
minimal and I can verify that as I already checked that out.If as you
suggested , combined two gray polarizers with a color filter, you would not
achieve the same effect. The two gray polarizers would create a very dark,
opaque look. try it and see. Hoya Vario-PL color filters work the same way.
