Became enthralled when I was maybe 10 years old, got my first camera
(and nearly cried when I lost it--just a point-and-shoot 35mm. . .) and
haven't put one down since. Mostly amateur stuff--only took one formal class
in high school, but I've been experimenting since then with various stuff.
Now I'm living vicariously through my roommate who is taking the photo class
here. I'd love to spend all my $$ on film and cameras and stuff, but it just
doesn't work out that well for me right now. . .
>- preferred subjects:
Anything--I got into taking candids of random people while in Atlanta
for, you guessed it, the Olympics!! But, I have some interesting landscapes
and pics of various cities and places (Clemson's campus and the people are
my current obsession) Tried working with a "model"--really, my
roommate--last semester, got some neat pics, but things didn't quite turn
out as I expected.
>
>- materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry):
right now, whatever 35mm print film I can pick up at a reasonable price,
both B&W and color;I have it processed at the lab. Hoping to try out some IR
film asap, and I want to move into medium format as soon as I can afford to. . .
>- format (35mm/medium format/large format):
oops--I already said. . . 35mm
>- How did you find out about this list:
must have been a posting on a newsgroup, but I can't exactly
remember which one. I've been lurking for about a month or so; couldn't
"come out" before now for various reasons, including the inability to use
the mail server through which I subscribed. . . don't ask. . .
> other strange hobbies:
horseback riding, skiing (have been taking notes on winter landscapes
with IR. . .), being in way too many clubs at school, driving (not racecars
or anything, just out int he country--I find a lot of neat places to take
photos doing this), staring out the window at various trees and wondering
how they'd look in IR while I should be paying attention to lecture (what
can I say? this group has changed my perspective on life. . .), theater
(both acting and tech), and anything else I manage to squeeze into my
schedule. . .
>- Expand on anything photographic you like:
hmm. . . well, like I said, I've been reading this list for quite
some time, and although it was (and still is, often) way above my level, I
have managed to learn a lot from everyone. I can't wait to get my hands on a
roll of IR!! I'm just going to hope that my camera works out OK with it. . .
I now have three--an Olympus Zoom used for everyday stuff, a polaroid
captiva rarely ever used, and a Miranda SLR from the 60's/70's--this would
eb the one I'd use for IR, I guess. Does anyone know if the Olympus would be
OK? I mean, I remember hearing about infrared sensors inside some camera
bodies, plus it has a "window" for the film canister. . . well, i suppose
that's it, and I'll go back to lurking until I get that first roll shot and
all. . .
