Gavin-- You do not say what film speed you are using. I suggest setting a
speed of ISO 200. Meter through the lens without the filter. Take that
reading and open 4 stops for the filter. Then do another shot, open one
additional stop. This should properly expose the film. Infrared filters are
not recommended for Ektachrome infrared. The ideal filter to use is a no.12
yellow or no.16 orange. Either filter will produce magenta foliage &
grass,leaving the sky a natural blue. For more surreal effects, the
following: no.25 red-- orange vegetation & green skies; blue filter--magenta
vegetation & skies.  Hope this helps.
